A hand-twisted brass horn form on a weighted base. The lamp that proved organic shape and machine-grade material can coexist. Featured in Veranda, House Beautiful, Apartment Therapy.

Horn was a single brass column twisted into a horn form, mounted on a weighted brass base. Twenty-four inches tall. The twist was hand-formed over a mandrel by a small-shop metalworker, then the column was hand-polished to an even brass finish across the curves.
The argument the lamp made was that organic form (horn, antler, vine) had drifted into a craft-fair aesthetic and become unusable in serious interior work. The reason was material. Cheap organic forms were always plaster or resin. Done in solid brass, the same form reads as architecture.
Production ran for four years and ended in 2019 when the metalworker who hand-twisted the columns moved to commercial fabrication work full-time.

Solid brass, not plated or cast
Hand-twisted from a solid brass column. No plating, no casting, no plaster understructure. The mass of the brass was what made the organic form read as a designed object rather than a souvenir.

Hand-formed over a mandrel
Each twist formed by hand over a steel mandrel. The slight variation in pitch across pieces was the visual signature. A machined twist would have been uniform and lifeless.

Polished after twisting, not before
The column was twisted first and polished second. Polishing first would have lost the surface quality through the working process. Polishing second meant the finish followed the form, which is what made the curves read clean.
Organic form done in real material didn’t go away.
The lamp is no longer made. The principle (organic shape needs industrial material to escape the craft-fair category) sits behind how the network’s designers approach any naturalistic fixture spec.
